From time to time we will offer vintage and used fly fishing tackle. Please check back often for new additions. We are always interested in purchasing or taking consignments of used cane rods, but visitors please take note: we do not provide free tackle appraisals! Because the value of any fishing collectible is largely based on condition, and because researching values is so time consuming, we can not offer free, sight-unseen tackle appraisals. If you'd like us to appraise your tackle for a fee, please contact us for more information and we'd be happy to assist you. If you've arrived here via a search engine because you've found an old piece of tackle and hope to learn its value, we are very sorry but we are unable to help you without seeing the tackle and charging a fee. Thanks!
Additional Note: All items are covered by our 3-day return policy. The customer can inspect or lawn cast any item for up to 3 days after receipt. If you receive an item and wish to return it, you will receive a full refund provided it's returned promptly in the condition it was sent. All returned items must be insured for the purchase price and packed appropriately. Please contact us before returning any item.
We keep our consignment rates low to help you save money. The single best way for you to decide on an item is to send us a check for it and inspect it yourself. We do everything possible to describe items fairly...it does us no good to send you an item that you will only want to return. Let us know if we can provide additional pictures or if you'd like to make an offer via email.

Leonard Model 38H: 7', 2p. 2t. for DT4 line. This 38H is in near-mint condition featuring blond cane w/Leonard 3x3 node spacing, polished nickel silver downlocking cap and ring seat w/varnished butternut spacer terminating in a 6" cigar grip, fawn wraps tipped olive, Leonard step down ferrules, size 11, serial number 1478. This rod has been with the original owner since it was custom-made for him in 1973(The reel seat slide band was factory engraved with the owner's initials), and has been very lightly fished with only a slight amount of grip soiling as evidence. The 38H is one of the most popular and enduring light trout rods ever made, and casts a DT4 line with delicacy yet authority. All sections full-length, ferrules fit with silky smoothness and are easily aligned with the present witness marks. Shortly after taking delivery on this rod, the owner had an unfortunate mishap involving one tip, so the fine folks at Leonard made him a duplicate numbered tip, which accounts for the slight difference in color of the guides between the two tips and the color of the ferrule wrap. In original yellow poplin bag and brass-capped aluminum tube sans label and hang tag, this rod is a gem in near-mint condition. Straight, tight and classic! $2,450
Orvis Battenkill 7 ½', 2p., 2 t. 3 7/8 oz. for HDG(WF6) line, fast. Orvis impregnated cane, original chocolate translucent wraps, polished d/l aluminum screw lock with walnut spacer, cleaned cigar grip, serial number 65113(1972). Straight and tight with gorgeous dark cane, overall good condition. Writing and bluing in fair shape, with signs that the female ferrule was factory reset at some point in time. Marked for HDG(WF6) line, I took this out on the lawn with a Hardy DT5 line and it just sang! Also gave it a go with an SA Ultra4 DT4 and it also worked as a 'long' 4 wt. Original bag and case with engraved hexagonal cap sans label. An incredible value in cane rods, take this baby fishing! $695.
J.D. Wagner Patriot Series 6'3" 3-4 wt, 2p, 1t. This rod was custom-made and labeled "Centre County, PA" and is in mint condition. The only sign it was ever even cast is a slight cracking at the varnish on the ferrules, otherwise mint. This is our best-selling small stream taper, having a delicate yet powerful feel for DT3 or DT5 lines. Short length keeps your rod tip out of the brush. With deeply flamed cane, forest green color-preserved silk, oxidized Super Z ferrules and nickel silver pocketed butt cap and ring....all the bells and whistles of our very popular Patriot Series rods, which run $845 new. This one, $699. With bag. Case showing some normal wear.
J.D. Wagner Signature Series Custom Model 380 BP 5-6 wt.. Flamed cane, silk color scheme: reddish brown transluscent fine silk tipped black extremely delicate 3 wrap intermediates and signature wrap, U/L Venerri nickel silver screw lock with a gorgeously figured maple burl stabilized spacer, black guides and oxidized ferrules! Our most versatile trout rod with two different tips: dry tip for DT5 and wet tip for DT6 or WF7, in a very desirable 3-piece configuration for easy travel use. I use this rod model constantly because it can do so much with the wet and dry tips! All the bells and whistles of our Signature Series rods. Rod shows absolutely no sign of use, pristine, mint. With bag and case, a new one would currently run $2,845 with the intermediate wraps. $2,275
J.D. Wagner Presentation Series Custom 3 p, 2t 5 wt.. Flamed cane, my favorite silk color scheme: olive fine silk tipped black extremely delicate 3 wrap intermediates and signature wrap, forest green silk at ferrules, U/L Venerri nickel silver screw lock with a gorgeouse varnished bird's eye maple spacer, hard chrome guides and fully engraved nickel silver ferrules and reel seat hardware in rose and scroll pattern! Mortised butt section in matching bird's eye maple. This rod was a killer to make! The customer supplied his own bird's eye for this commission, and each time I tried to cut the featherlike splices, I'd get down to the last pass before they'd blow out when the cutters hit a bird's eye. Over and over I made the splices until they came out immaculate. With bag and case, a new one would currently run $3,745...that's assuming I would do it again in bird's eye, but I never will, having learned my lesson the hard way! In great shape, sparsely fished and well-tended. $3,500.
J. D. Wagner Model 250BC Light Baitcasting Rod: Custom made for the owner of the rod above to fish for crappies and small bass. This 5', 2p, 2t. light action rod features all the bells and whistles of our Signature Series rods plus more: mirror matched tips, richly flamed cane, wraps delicately tipped in black, agate tip tops, black titanium guides, downlocking nickel silver Venerri reel seat witha mind blowing burl wood impregnated spacer terminating in the retaining hood under the 5" grip, 'onion foregrip', nickel silver end plate on grip, oxidized super Z ferrules, bamboo ferrule plug., hexagonal curly cherry rod case with contrasting maple end caps. Rod and case evidences no signs of use and are in absolutely pristine condition. Over the years we've made less than 5 baitcasting rods, including one I made for my dad's retirement gift which remains in our family. I love making baitcasters and spinning rods for folks, but there's actually more work in one than a fly rod, hence if we quoted this rod today it would run $2,395. This one, in as-new condition, $1,595.
Leonard Model 39H: 7 1/2', 2p. 2t. for DT5/DT6 line. This 39H is in near-immaculate condition featuring blond cane w/Leonard 3x3 node spacing, polished aluminum U/L screw lock seat w/varnished mahogany spacer terminating in a 6" reverse half Wells grip, brown wraps tipped gold at ferrules and hook keeper, tan wraps tipped claret at guides, hard chrome guides with aluminum oxide ring stripper in matching brown color, Leonard step down ferrules, size 13, serial number 39H-3755. As near as I can date this rod it appears to have been made c. 1976 and fished extremely sparingly. All sections full-length, ferrules fit with silky smoothness and are easily aligned with the present witness marks, reel seat still retains some overvarnish from the wood spacer, with only the slightest grip soiling- that's how little this rod has been fished! In original yellow poplin bag and brass-capped aluminum tube sans label and hang tag, this rod is has a crisp action fitting either a DT5 or 6 line and plenty of backbone. Straight, tight and classic! $2,550
Leonard Model 50: 8', 3p, 2t. for DT5 or 6 line. Prefire vintage(1950's) expertly restored by Thomas and Thomas in the 1970's, features varnished blond cane w/3x3 node staggering, D/L aluminum square thread screw lock seat with nickel silver pocketed butt cap w/bull's eye at end of same and varnished butternut spacer terminating at a 5" cigar grip, bronze Perfection guides wrapped in color-preserved, understated tan silk, double-tipped at hook keeper and ferrules. This model is rated for DT6 line, but the size 15 and 10 ferrules give this rod a very pleasing and elegant action well into the butt, where the action is terminated by the cute little swell in front of the grip. I think it would suit almost any angler using a DT5 or WF6, too. Rod assembles with a silky smoothness due to the gorgeous Tom Bailey-made step down ferrules with witness marks, 1 tip with only a slight fishing set, straight and tight otherwise. Some grip soiling and slight cork ridging as typical of a rod of this vintage, some slight marring in spots to the delicate knurling on the screw lock band. Thanks to the T&T restoration, it's remained in overall VG condition with original bag and tube sans label and hang tag. $1,950.
Orvis Madison 8', 2p., 1 t. Orvis impregnated cane, original wraps, d/l aluminum screw lock with walnut spacer, cigar grip, serial number 69985(1975). Straight and tight, with owner's name on shaft, light grip soiling. All writing and bluing in great shape. Marked for GBF(WF8!!!) line, the heaviest line I would use would be a WF7, and more likely a DT5 or DT6. Original bag and labeled case. $500. I think the Orvis rods are incredibly undervalued given their quality and durability. These are just plain great fishing rods, and are perfect for people looking to get into cane at a reasonable price or for people who are afraid to fish super high value collectible rods.
Rare! Edwards Quadrate Spinning rod for 1/4-1/2 oz lures. 7', 2p, 1t. 15" spinning grip with two oxidized slide bands, squared oxidized ferrules, flamed cane, original varnish and writing on shaft, red wraps tipped black. A completely original rod with original bag and case(no top on case), wraps could use a touchup and slight click on a ferrule when rod is wiggled just the right way to feel it. A very cool rod just begging to be fished! $325

Original canvas bag and brass-capped aluminum case, a very nice package. $1,495 SOLD!

Richly flamed Orvis impregnated cane, D/L aluminum screw lock seat with walnut spacer, bright guides, oxidized step down ferrules, original writing intact, tapered cigar grip w/slight soiling, original translucent brown silk wraps, serial number 55767. J.D. Wagner Signature Series Model 363-M 6'3" 4 wt, 3 p. Pumpkin color cane, clear silk tipped black, D/L NS slide band with NS pocketed butt cap, bright hardware, chrome guides. WOW! This rod is a blast from the past! This is the 3rd rod from a batch of 6 that represented my first rods as a full-time professional builder in 1995. Although there were 6 rods made in this batch, they were all #1 in a sense as they were made at the same time. This rod model was developed out of local interest. A customer had a Summers 2p. 6'3" model that was a very sweet rod, and asked if I could make it as a 3 piece as Bob Summers didn't make 3 piece rods.(And to my knowledge, still doesn't.) So, after taking the taper and experimenting a bit to make it conform to 3p, this was the result. It's been a very successful model that we still retain in our catalogue and one of my favorites for small stream use as it packs down to just a hair over 25". It's got power and delicacy and can put a fly in a teacup- just perfect for pitching flies to brookies in tight quarters. As all of of our early rods, this rod was supplied in a very highly figured fiddleback maple case with brass snaps. Excellent condition showing only the slightest use and well-taken care of, the owner is trading toward a new Classic Series rod. $1,395 (A new one runs $2,445.) Sold!
J.D. Wagner Signature Series Quad, Model 276 AQ: Made for a good friend who is putting this one towards a new Classic Series rod. This is a smooth caster for DT4 or 5, but just a little stiffer than our top-selling 7'3" FS taper. More meat and a tad faster for bigger fish! 100% of bluing retained on ferrules, about 80% on the cap and ring seat, some slight grip soiling which I'd be happy to clean up as well as an overall polish to the lucky owner gratis, straight and tight, bag and labeled aluminum and brass tube. Gorgeous color and varnish work, if I do say so myself. $1,900. (2012 price $2,395) SOLD!

Made famous by their association w/Charles Ritz, the P&M parabolic rods are casting machines. I took this out on the lawn with a WF7 444 and was effortlessly laying out 60' and could do more with just a slight double haul.. Some might like this rod with a DT5, but a DT6 or WF7 really makes it sing.
Forget about all the crap you've read about parabolic rods. The stuff about requiring 'pinpoint timing', etc that was written more to stroke the egos of the writers then anything. Without fail, if I'm at a show and put a parabolic into the hands of a person who doesn't know it's a parabolic, they love the rod and are quite shocked to learn that they are easily able to cast these 'difficult' rods.

Condition is quite good with virtually 100% of ferrule bluing remaining. Slight grip soiling. Varnish good, but could use a polish. Rod is straight w/no sets, ferrules tight.
Made famous by their association w/Charles Ritz, the P&M parabolic rods are casting machines. I took this out on the lawn with a Dt5 333 and was effortlessly laying out 50-60' and could do more with just a slight double haul.. I think this rod would actually prefer a WF6, or even a DT6 in the hands of a person who can slow their casting stroke and let the rod do the work.
A great rod for big water fishing. With the tips being relatively heavy, perfect for streamer, small poppers and large hair bugs, weighted flies, as well as normal dry fly work. Bag may be original, case is a replacement aluminum. $550. SOLD!
New Listing! Fenwick Voyageur Glass Model FF756-4 7 1/2', 4-piece for DT6 line. Brown wraps tipped white. D/L screw lock seat w/Young-style grip. This typical brown-blanked Fenwick is in outstanding condition...its original owner is a good friend of ours who takes great care of his equipment. All of the original decals are present and in great shape.
It's kind of a hoot seeing the resurgance in glass rods of late, with some of the new higher end rods running $500 +. Newer anglers are discovering that some of this 'old technology' really made for great rods, and of the era the Fenwicks were amongst the very highest regarded for quality and castability. This one is from the mid-70's, and has its original labeled brown and white triangular case but the bag is a well made replacement in plaid fabric like the original. Labeled for DT6, but would be nice with a DT5 and a faster casting stroke. Ah, nostaliga......$125 SOLD!.

Note: we have just received a large consignment of vintage cane rods, flyreels, glass spinning and baitcasting rods and reels. Most of the cane rods were made by noted Clevelander Sib Leotta. Sib was a world champion tournament caster, author and rodbuilder.
Many of these rods may have been made in conjunction with another Cleveland builder, Oros, as they bear quite a few cosmetic and structural similarities. As noted individually, these rods are not artistic masterpieces, but reflect the fact that they were made to fish with. Any of the rods listed will provide an excellent casting and fishing experience, at an unbeatable price.
