Vintage Rods and Tackle

From time to time we will offer vintage and used fly fishing tackle. Please check back often for new additions. We are always interested in purchasing or taking consignments of used cane rods, but visitors please take note: we do not provide free tackle appraisals! Because the value of any fishing collectible is largely based on condition, and because researching values is so time consuming, we can not offer free, sight-unseen tackle appraisals. If you'd like us to appraise your tackle for a fee, please contact us for more information and we'd be happy to assist you. If you've arrived here via a search engine because you've found an old piece of tackle and hope to learn its value, we are very sorry but we are unable to help you without seeing the tackle and charging a fee. Thanks!

Additional Note: All items are covered by our 3-day return policy. The customer can inspect or lawn cast any item for up to 3 days after receipt. If you receive an item and wish to return it, you will receive a full refund provided it's returned promptly in the condition it was sent. All returned items must be insured for the purchase price and packed appropriately. Please contact us before returning any item.

We keep our consignment rates low to help you save money. The single best way for you to decide on an item is to send us a check for it and inspect it yourself. We do everything possible to describe items fairly...it does us no good to send you an item that you will only want to return. Let us know if we can provide additional pictures or if you'd like to make an offer via email.

Rods

Just received a very nice group of Orvis rods! All of these rods are in great shape, having been lightly fished and very well cared for by the original owner and heir. I think the Orvis rods are incredibly undervalued given their quality and durability. These are just plain great fishing rods, and are perfect for people looking to get into cane at a reasonable price or for people who are afraid to fish super high value collectible rods.

Orvis Battenkill 8', 2p., 2 t. Orvis impregnated cane, original wraps, d/l aluminum screw lock with walnut spacer, cigar grip, serial number 25823(1959). Straight and tight, with owner's name on paper and secured to grip with tape, light grip soiling. All writing and bluing in great shape. Minor superficial scratching on butt section, may have been fished from a boat. One foot of stripper wrap is partially split and could use a touch up or rewrap. Marked for HCH(DT7) line, also casts a DT6 nicely. Original bag and labeled case. $550.

A.J. Thramer Classic Taper Series Dickerson 6611, 2p, 2t 6'6" for DT3/4 line. D/L bright NS cap and ring w/walnut spacer, brown wraps tipped black w/Dickerson 'Signature' wraps on butt section for measuring fish, oxidized step down ferrules, cute little swelled butt above grip, blond cane in the Dickerson style. A wonderful rod in excellent condition showing only the slightest signs of use. I've long been a fan of AJ's work as he produces a very clean rod at an amazingly modest price. I lined this up with a Hardy Featherweight and an SA DT3 line and it feels wonderfully balanced in the hand and will load enough to cast just the leader and out to an incredible distance...a great taper! With original bag and labeled case. New runs $995, asking $750. REDUCED $675

Unknown/ Leonard Duracane??: 8', 2p., 2t. for DT5 or 6. Impregnated, NS step down ferrules, tan C/P silks, chrome guides, uplocking screw lock seat w/zebrawood(?) spacer, strap and ring hook keeper, vintage c. mid-70's. I'm not sure what this rod is. Might be a legit Leonard Duracane, might be a kit rod, might be some other manufacturer, but bottom line is this a GREAT rod for the money. Cane is in great condition on this rod, the hook keeper wrap appears to have been overwrapped at some time. Rod is straight and tight, female ferrule apparently reset at some point in the past. Rod was sold through Angler'sMail in Parma Heights, Ohio. Unfortunately, the marking on this rod was lost...a common occurance on impregnated rods as the varnish coat over the ink can be easily chipped and lost. The rod was re-inked #806, Leonard Duracane, 8' #6 wt. Original bag with hanging tab, case may be an old replacement. This is a STEAL for $400 and a great starter rod for someone looking to get into cane for a very modest sum. Sold!Hardy LRH Lightweight in rare bronze finish. Condition is very good w/very good varnish work and with virtually 100% of ferrule bluing remaining. Slight grip soiling. Rod is straight and tight.

Made famous by their association w/Charles Ritz, the P&M parabolic rods are casting machines. I took this out on the lawn with a WF7 444 and was effortlessly laying out 60' and could do more with just a slight double haul.. Some might like this rod with a DT5, but a DT6 or WF7 really makes it sing.

Forget about all the crap you've read about parabolic rods. The stuff about requiring 'pinpoint timing', etc that was written more to stroke the egos of the writers then anything. Without fail, if I'm at a show and put a parabolic into the hands of a person who doesn't know it's a parabolic, they love the rod and are quite shocked to learn that they are easily able to cast these 'difficult' rods.

A great rod for big water fishing. With the tips being relatively heavy, perfect for streamer, small poppers and large hair bugs, weighted flies, as well as normal dry fly work. Original bag, no case but one can be provided. $1,300 Sold!

New Listing! Pezon et Michel Parabolic Speciale Normale 8 1/2' 5 wt. 2p, 1t. Blond cane, Wells grip, d/l bronze color screw lock. Reverse twist guides double wrapped in red, tipped black. Condition is quite good with virtually 100% of ferrule bluing remaining. Slight grip soiling. Varnish good, but could use a polish. Rod is straight w/no sets, ferrules tight.

Made famous by their association w/Charles Ritz, the P&M parabolic rods are casting machines. I took this out on the lawn with a Dt5 333 and was effortlessly laying out 50-60' and could do more with just a slight double haul.. I think this rod would actually prefer a WF6, or even a DT6 in the hands of a person who can slow their casting stroke and let the rod do the work.

Bag may be original, case is a replacement aluminum. $550. SOLD!

New Listing! Fenwick Voyageur Glass Model FF756-4 7 1/2', 4-piece for DT6 line. Brown wraps tipped white. D/L screw lock seat w/Young-style grip. This typical brown-blanked Fenwick is in outstanding condition...its original owner is a good friend of ours who takes great care of his equipment. All of the original decals are present and in great shape.

It's kind of a hoot seeing the resurgance in glass rods of late, with some of the new higher end rods running $500 +. Newer anglers are discovering that some of this 'old technology' really made for great rods, and of the era the Fenwicks were amongst the very highest regarded for quality and castability. This one is from the mid-70's, and has its original labeled brown and white triangular case but the bag is a well made replacement in plaid fabric like the original. Labeled for DT6, but would be nice with a DT5 and a faster casting stroke.  Ah, nostaliga......$125 SOLD!.

Note: we have just received a large consignment of vintage cane rods,  flyreels, glass spinning and baitcasting rods and reels. Most of the cane rods were made by noted Clevelander Sib Leotta. Sib was a world champion tournament caster, author and rodbuilder.

Many of these rods may have been made in conjunction with another Cleveland builder, Oros, as they bear quite a few cosmetic and structural similarities. As noted individually, these rods are not artistic masterpieces, but reflect the fact that they were made to fish with. Any of the rods listed will provide an excellent casting and fishing experience, at an unbeatable price.
